Early Life and Family Background

Kuldeep Yadav was born in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, on December 14, 1994, and grew up in a humble Kanpur family. His mother, Usha Yadav, stays at home while his father, Ram Singh Yadav, owns a brick kiln. He was raised in a loving home with three older sisters, which fueled his love of cricket.

Kuldeep admired Wasim Akram and Zaheer Khan as a child and aspired to be a fast bowler. His career would be greatly impacted by his decision to move to left-arm wrist spin after his coach, Kapil Pandey, saw his potential for spin.

Cricketing Beginnings

At the age of nine, Kuldeep enrolled at a Kanpur cricket academy, where Kapil Pandey helped him refine his abilities. His progress was first hampered by rejection and self-doubt; at one point, he even thought about giving up the sport. But with perseverance and an increasing command of the uncommon "chinaman" bowling technique, he recovered.

When he was chosen for the Indian Under-19 squad in 2012, it was his big break. He finished with 14 wickets in 5 games during the 2014 ICC Under-19 World Cup, making him the first Indian to take a hat-trick in the competition.

Rise in Domestic and International Cricket

Kuldeep progressively rose up the ranks after making his Uttar Pradesh first-class debut against Baroda in 2014. He became the first left-arm chinaman to play for India in Test matches when he made his Test debut against Australia in March 2017 and claimed four wickets in his opening innings.

Soon after, he began playing ODI and T20I, and he and Yuzvendra Chahal, who is lovingly known as "KulCha," developed a fearsome spin combination. His career highlights include a hat-trick in ODIs against Australia in 2017 and the West Indies in 2019. Additionally, he contributed significantly to India's campaigns in several bilateral series including the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Personal Life

By the 2025 season, Kuldeep Yadav is still single. Despite his reputation for maintaining a private existence, no information regarding a wife, son, or daughter is publicly available. In the same way, except from the fact that he is the youngest of his siblings, little is known about them.

When Kuldeep is not playing cricket, he loves to spend time with his dog. He is a football fan as well, and his favorite team is Real Madrid.

IPL Career and Revival with Delhi Capitals

The Mumbai Indians signed Kuldeep in 2012, however he was never given the opportunity to play in the IPL. From 2014 to 2021, he played for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which helped him gain notoriety. His confidence and form were impacted by injuries and erratic performances, even if he had a few excellent seasons.

When he was selected by the Delhi Capitals in the 2022 IPL mega auction, his career experienced a notable comeback. Kuldeep was allowed to express himself and regain his rhythm under Ricky Ponting's direction and with the help of DC's team management.

Kuldeep has become one of DC's top spinners by the 2025 season. He plays a vital role in the team, mostly bowling in the middle overs to break partnerships and control the pace of runs. He has proven his worth in the format by taking significant wickets during this season's campaign and maintaining an outstanding economy rate.
