On October 12, 1993, Kashi Nath Singh, a cab driver in Kolkata, gave birth to Mukesh Kumar in Gopalganj, Bihar. The family, who had little money, moved to Kolkata in search of a better life. Mukesh's early life was greatly influenced by his father, who supported his training in spite of the financial difficulties.

At first, Mukesh struggled academically and showed little potential in school. But he had an unshakeable love for cricket. Mukesh ultimately began training at the Bani Niketan club in Kolkata after his father gave him permission to concentrate on the sport.

Mukesh was devastated when his father tragically died of a brain stroke in 2019. He was nevertheless inspired to follow his cricketing ambitions by this tragedy.
