A Career Shaped by Grit and Comeback
Pooran's course changed drastically early in his cricket career. After sustaining serious injuries to his left ankle and knee in a terrible car accident in 2015, he was forced to miss more than 18 months of play. Unwavering desire and tenacity were thought to be the reason behind his recovery and return to cricket.
Despite the setback, he was the youngest player to make his debut in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at the age of 17. His debut of 54 from 24 balls was a potent sign of things to come.
He eventually made his debut for the West Indies national team after making his debut in One Day Internationals in 2019 and T20 Internationals in 2016. He eventually captained the national squad in white-ball cricket and was well-known for his forceful yet graceful strokeplay. However, in order to focus on franchise cricket and personal responsibilities, Pooran announced his retirement from international cricket in June 2025.
IPL Breakthrough and Rise with Lucknow Super Giants
Pooran's IPL career began with the Mumbai Indians in 2017, even though he didn't play a game that season. Before being chosen by Kings XI Punjab in 2019, he wasn't a consistent IPL player. Because of his combative demeanor and adaptability, he was a sought-after player in subsequent auctions.
Pooran joined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the 2023 IPL season for an astounding ₹16 crore. He became the team's top run scorer in 2025 after scoring over 500 runs and putting up a series of outstanding middle-order performances. His powerful hitting, quick running between the wickets, and keen wicket-keeping skills have made him one of LSG's most important assets.
Role and Impact in LSG
In addition to being the batting order's staple, Pooran has taken on unofficial leadership responsibilities among the group. Because of his international experience and prior leadership in the West Indies, he is a perfect field general and mentor even though he is not the official captain.
Pooran's presence provides the team with balance and firepower. Whether LSG is chasing massive totals or sprinting in the final overs, his ability to shift momentum with a few deliveries has helped them win games time and time again. His fitness, match knowledge, and composure under pressure make him an important member of the squad both now and in the future.
Life Beyond Cricket
When Nicholas is not playing, he enjoys spending time with his family, which includes Alyssa and their daughter. He likes to swim, travel, and listen to music. Despite his fame, he is admired for his professionalism, humility, and strength.
