Rinku Singh
Position: Batter
Born in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, on October 12, 1997, Rinku Khanchandra Singh has emerged as the Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) beating heart. Referred to as "Junior Raina" and "Lord Rinku Singh," he gained widespread recognition during the 2023 Indian Premier League when he struck five straight sixes in the final over against the Gujarat Titans, giving KKR an all but certain victory. A star appeared at that same moment.
Humble Roots & Family Sacrifice
Rinku and his huge family of nine lived in a basic two-room LPG business quarter in Aligarh. Of his six siblings, he is the third. He has a sister named Neha, an older brother named Jeetu Singh, who drives an autorickshaw, and another brother who works at a coaching center. His mother, Vina Devi, ran the home, and his father, Khanchandra Singh, made a living by delivering LPG cylinders.
Rinku's family encouraged him to pursue his passion of playing cricket despite his financial difficulties. His father was initially dubious and even disciplined him to deter cricket. However, Rinku received a scholarship and gained his father's support following his performance in a school tournament, where he scored an undefeated 68.
Education & Early Cricket
Through a sports quota, Rinku briefly attended Delhi Public School in Aligarh. After failing the ninth grade and deciding cricket was his actual calling, he left school. He used to sweep floors at a coaching center, but he quit after being ordered to fabricate information about his work. He later claimed that this incident strengthened his will to be a successful cricket player.
He advanced swiftly, playing for Uttar Pradesh at the under-16, under-19, and under-23 levels. He made his first appearance in first-class cricket as a result of his outstanding achievements in domestic competitions, including the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was the leading scorer for UP in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy with 953 runs, including four hundreds.
Setbacks & IPL Entry
For ₹10 lakh, Rinku was selected by Kings XI Punjab in 2017, however he was never given the opportunity to play. He was signed for ₹80 lakh by the Kolkata Knight Riders the next year. Although his early seasons were slow, he made use of them to improve his abilities and level of fitness. He later acknowledged that he was able to provide for his family and even plan his sister's wedding thanks to his IPL earnings.
He had a serious setback in 2021 when he sustained a knee injury that prevented him from playing. In 2019, he was also suspended by the BCCI for three months for playing in an unlicensed league in Abu Dhabi. But he came back stronger, determined to take advantage of every chance.
Breakthrough & Role at KKR
Rinku demonstrated his skill in the 2022 Indian Premier League by averaging almost 35 runs with a strike rate of 148. Following his unprecedented five-sixes finish in the 2023 Indian Premier League, he became a household name. Both the KKR captain and the coaching staff praised him for his consistency and composure under duress.
Rinku is a vital middle-order batsman and finisher for KKR as of IPL 2025. He is one of the team's most valuable players because of his capacity to perform under duress.
International Career
On August 18, 2023, Rinku made his T20I debut for India against Ireland. Later that year, against Australia, he achieved his first T20 half-century. In December 2023, he played his first ODI match against South Africa. He is a serious candidate for a regular berth in India's white-ball teams based on his performances.
Personal Life
Rinku made the announcement of his engagement to Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj in June 2025. It is anticipated that the couple would tie the knot in Varanasi on November 18, 2025. There is currently no information available to the public regarding a son or daughter.
A dove, a rose, the phrase "Family," a clock that reads 2:26 (the moment KKR selected him), and the words "God's Plan" are among the many tattoos that express particular importance for Rinku.
The Road Ahead
From cleaning floors to completing matches on the grandest platform, Rinku Singh's journey is one of perseverance, self-belief, and sacrifice. He is KKR's emotional center and a beacon of optimism, not just a player. Millions of Indians who aspire to overcome adversity are still motivated by his story.
