Manvanth Kumar
Position: All-Rounder
Born in Mysuru, Karnataka, on January 11, 2004, Manvanth Kumar L is a young Indian cricket player who excels at both fast-medium bowling and left-handed batting. With his recent addition to the Delhi Capitals (DC) roster for the 2025 Indian Premier League season, he has risen from humble beginnings to become a remarkable talent.
Early Life and Background
Manvanth came from a lowly background. His dad, S. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) employed Lakshmi Kumar as a driver, and his mother, R. Sridevi was in charge of the home. Manvanth had to overcome numerous financial obstacles while growing up in a modest Mysuru home. But his passion for cricket remained unwavering. He started training at the Balachandra Cricket Academy, riding a shared bicycle with his older brother Hemanth, who was also a cricket player, for 15 kilometers every day.
The financial status of the family deteriorated when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Even though his father's pay was cut, Manvanth persisted in his training resolutely, frequently donning tattered shoes. Although she occasionally found it difficult to supply cricket necessities, his mother never stopped encouraging him.
Cricketing Development
When Manvanth's coaches saw his innate bowling skill in 2022, he changed from being a top-order batsman to an all-rounder. He learned the knuckleball, length variations, and yorkers, among other crucial bowling techniques, under the tutelage of Mansoor Ali Khan and former India bowler Vinay Kumar. His big stature and bounce gave his bowling a distinct advantage.
He performed consistently while representing Karnataka in a number of age groups, including Under-14, Under-16, Under-19, and Under-23.
Domestic Cricket Achievements
In the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20, Manvanth left a lasting impression. He grabbed 22 wickets for the Hubli Tigers in the 2023 season, which was the most by any player in a single tournament edition. He also helped the team win the match by defending 12 runs in the final. He was an exceptional performer because of his economical bowling and capacity to withstand pressure.
He maintained his form in 2024, taking 16 wickets at an economy of 7.82 during another strong run in the Maharaja Trophy. He solidified his status as one of Karnataka's best up-and-coming players by helping the state win the Col. C. K. Nayudu Trophy.
On November 27, 2024, Manvanth made his Karnataka T20 debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Despite not taking a wicket in the debut match, his economical bowling and short batting cameo (8 not out off 4 balls) displayed his potential as a lower-order all-rounder.
IPL Entry and Role with Delhi Capitals
He was selected by the Delhi Capitals at the 2024 auction for the base price of ₹30 lakh after they saw his potential. Manvanth became the first Mysuru zone player to be selected for the IPL. Being a member of the 2025 DC team put him in the company of top players and provided him with access to top-notch coaching and mentoring.
Despite playing few games in 2025, he was seen as a future asset because of his ability to perform well in the final overs. He was mostly an all-round bowler who could contribute with the bat in the lower order and give important overs.
Manvanth has based some aspects of Ben Stokes' game, particularly his fearless approach, after the England all-rounder, whom he idolizes.
